Services

Our services help VIB researchers work with data in a way that is efficient, secure, reproducible, and aligned with institutional and funder requirements.

The VIB Data Core provides services, platforms, and support for researchers working with data across the research life cycle, from data generation and active analysis to sharing, publication, and archiving. Services can be requested via VIB Connect, and detailed user guidance is available in the VIB Data Core documentation.

Compute

The VIB Compute Cluster provides high-performance computational resources for analyses that require substantial processing power, memory, or storage.

Researchers can use the cluster through the command line or via Open OnDemand. This browser-based portal makes it easier to work with common analysis environments, monitor jobs, browse files, and run interactive applications on the cluster.

Secure Compute for GDPR Sensitive Data

Research involving human or other sensitive data requires specific safeguards. The VIB Data Core supports secure workflows for GDPR-sensitive data.

If your project involves human data, clinical data, controlled-access datasets, or other sensitive information, check out our documentation on how to handle your data.

Web-based bioinformatics analysis through UseGalaxy.be

UseGalaxy.be provides access to ready-to-use bioinformatics tools and workflows through an accessible web environment.

The platform is a practical option for researchers who want to run standard or community-supported workflows without setting up their own computational environment. It supports reproducible and transparent computational research by making analyses easier to document, repeat, and share. UseGalaxy.be also includes storage and compute resources at no cost to the user.

Data Storage

Good data management starts with the right place to store data. The VIB Data Core provides storage solutions for research data during and after active project work.

We provide researchers with suitable storage environments and set up access in a way that fits the project. We can also advise on permissions, quota, and responsible use of shared storage.

Electronic Lab Notebook

The Electronic Lab Notebook helps research teams document experiments and research workflows in a structured way.

The VIB Data Core coordinates access, onboarding, and support for the institutional ELN. This helps teams improve traceability and keep project information organized from the start.

Data Management Plan

The VIB Data Core provides the VIB Data Management Plan Platform to enable researchers to create, update, export, and reuse their data management plans in a structured way.

The platform guides researchers through project-specific questions, supports collaboration, and makes it easier to maintain DMP information over time. It is recommended for new DMPs, major updates, and projects where VIB has reporting responsibilities.

Data Transfer

Large datasets need reliable transfer workflows. The VIB Data Core supports data movement between storage environments, compute infrastructure, core facilities, and external collaborators where appropriate.

For large or structured transfers, we support dedicated tools such as Globus and provide documentation for alternative transfer routes.

Data Deposition

The VIB Data Core provides workflows and tools to support structured data deposition to public repositories. This support currently focuses on genomic depostion.

Deposition workflows, such as submissions to the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA), are designed to help researchers prepare the required data and metadata in a more consistent way, in line with relevant repository, publication, funder, and open science requirements.
